Braga’s Spanish coach, Carlos Vicens, has not ruled out the possibility that his player Víctor Gómez could be called up to the senior Spain national team, highlighting the “very good season” the Catalan full-back is having. “You never know in football. Víctor is having a very good season, and the numbers speak for themselves,” Vicens said in a press conference ahead of the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 against Hungarian side Ferencváros.
The Mallorca-born coach also emphasized Gómez’s “strong resilience,” which “allows him to play a lot every three days.”
In the same press conference, Víctor Gómez dismissed any thoughts about the future, focusing solely on “achieving the comeback” against the Hungarian team, which won the first leg 2-0, a match in which the former Espanyol defender was suspended. “I haven’t thought about what I want to achieve by the end of the season. The most important thing right now is tomorrow’s game, to play a great match and try to help the team in the best way possible,” he stated.
Gómez, 25, is in his fourth season with Braga and, besides being the team’s most used player, is posting career-best stats with three goals and six assists. He has never played for the senior Spain team but counts the U19 and U17 European Championships won with La Roja in 2019 and 2017, respectively, among his honors.
