West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder has emerged as a game-changer for the Gujarat Titans (GT) this season, turning their campaign around since joining the playing XI. With Holder in the lineup, GT has won five of their last six matches, vaulting to the top of the points table.

In a standout performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Ahmedabad, Holder claimed three wickets as SRH were bowled out for just 86 runs while chasing GT’s 169. According to CricViz, Holder has taken 13 wickets in six matches at an average of 10.92, an economy rate of 6.35, and a strike rate of 10.3. These figures are the best among all bowlers with 15-plus overs this season.

With the bat, Holder has contributed 58 runs in five innings at an average of 19.33 and a strike rate exceeding 131, with a top score of 23. In the match against SRH, he remained unbeaten on 11 off 10 balls, steadying the innings alongside Washington Sundar. Holder has also been exceptional in the field, taking six catches in six matches.

Holder was introduced into the lineup against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) when GT had a balanced record of three wins and three losses. Since his inclusion, his veteran experience, leadership, and all-round skills have transformed GT into a much stronger side.

In the match, SRH opted to bowl first and reduced GT to 26 for 2. Sai Sudharsan (61 off 44 balls, with five fours and two sixes) led the recovery, first adding 38 runs with Nishant Sindhu (22 off 14 balls, with three fours and a six) and then 60 with Washington Sundar (50 off 33 balls, with seven fours and a six). GT finished at 168 for 5 in 20 overs, thanks to half-centuries from Sudharsan and Sundar. For SRH, Praful Hinge (2 for 17 in three overs) and Sakib Hussain (2 for 37 in four overs) bowled well, while captain Pat Cummins took 1 for 20 in four overs.

During the chase, Mohammed Siraj (1 for 11 in three overs) dismissed Travis Head for a duck. Kagiso Rabada (3 for 28 in four overs) tore through the top order, removing Abhishek Sharma (6), Ishan Kishan (11), and Smaran Ravichandran (9) to leave SRH struggling at 32 for 4 in 5.5 overs. Jason Holder (3 for 20 in four overs) and Prasidh Krishna (2 for 23 in three overs) then dismantled the rest, bowling SRH out for 86, with captain Pat Cummins (19) the top scorer. Rabada was named Player of the Match for his explosive spell in the powerplay.

With eight wins and four losses, GT leads the table with 16 points, while SRH has slipped to third with seven wins and five losses (14 points).
