The Los Angeles Dodgers have claimed left-handed pitcher Charlie Barnes off waivers from the Chicago Cubs, and to free up a spot on the 40-man roster, they moved infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman to the 60-day injured list.

Barnes, 30, was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Monday. He allowed four runs (three earned) over three innings in his only appearance this season on April 13 against the Philadelphia Phillies. At Triple-A Iowa, he posted a 3-1 record with a 3.04 ERA across seven appearances, four of which were starts.

In his major league career, Barnes holds a 0-3 record with a 6.15 ERA over 10 appearances (eight starts), with his last big league action coming in 2021 with the Minnesota Twins. He was selected by the Twins in the fourth round of the 2017 MLB Draft. For the previous four seasons, Barnes pitched for the Lotte Giants in South Korea, compiling a 35-32 record and a 3.58 ERA in 94 starts.

Edman, 31, underwent surgery on his right ankle in November, shortly after the Dodgers won the World Series. He is expected to be eligible to return from the injured list later this month. Over seven major league seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals and Dodgers, Edman has a career batting average of .258 with 72 home runs and 291 RBIs in 730 games.
